History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
