There are 2 types of forklifts, based whether or not they run on electricity or gas:

IC or Internal Combustion Forklifts: The IC forklift would run on fuels like gas, liquid propane, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. Gas powered units are best suited for outdoor applications because they produce pollutants and gases that are harmful to workers and pedestrians. Models that run on gasoline are also suitable to be used in bad climate and in the rain. These models could lift weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the maintenance and fuel costs, units that run on gas are much more costly to utilize than the electric units, however, they cost much less up front than electric powered models. Units which run on liquid propane are the best choice for safe use indoors.

Electric Forklifts: The electric forklift units are powered by really large batteries which must be recharged. The vehicles do not produce any polluting air emissions like these units do not burn any fuel. They are the best option for warehouses and indoor use. Moreover, forklifts that run on electricity are a lot quieter to run compared to other models and they do not need any fuel storage units. One of the disadvantages of the electric units is that they could not lift cargo over 15,000 pounds and hence, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered models.

The forklift is specifically designed to move things and supplies quickly and easily. Accidents do happen often like is the case with nearly all types of vehicles. There are specific safety regulations which must be followed in order to keep everyone safe. The most vital concern is recruiting a trained operator, who can show you a valid lift truck license.

On the market these days, there are numerous different styles of lift trucks available. Deciding which one is right for your specific requirements would be based on the kinds of loads that you need to transport, what type of environment your machinery would have to operate in, like for example, indoors or outdoors or both. Once you understand your specific requirements, it would be easy to match up to the right type of forklift. When you know your requirements exactly you could make an accurate decision.

Leasing is another good way to try out various models if you want to check out various features and see what kind of options are available. This is a cheaper way to determine if the machinery you have selected could keep up with you on the job location.
